Flint City Council is not giving up on its efforts to try and oust the mayor.

Wednesday night came word of emergency ordinances they're trying to enact that council says will give them the authority to forfeit Mayor Don Williamson from office.

The council's determination to try and use the city charter to remove Williamson from office heated up at a council committee meeting.

The move was spurred by Second Ward Councilman Ed Taylor, who read off a series of what he called "emergency ordinances" -- ordinances of the city charter that would set up new grounds upon which council could forfeit a mayor from office.

"City Council shall declare the forfeiture of the office of any elected officer or appointee who willfully and without justification or excuse obstructs any investigation of the City Council," Taylor said.

Council members approve moving Taylor's proposed emergency ordinances on to a vote at Monday's council meeting.

Taylor concedes he was moved to this action after the city attorney issued her opinion that there were no specific violations of the existing charter language for which the mayor could be removed.

"What you're going to do is create ordinances that will address and declare violations, whereas now it's not clear in the charter," Taylor said.

Taylor's proposed emergency ordinances would spell out ordinance violations for obstruction by the mayor of using the mayor's office for personal gain, and the maintenance of impartial and independent appointees.

We have been unable to contact the mayor for comment since the emergency order's were proposed. Taylor says he fully expects the mayor will veto the council's proposals, which the council will override.

Taylor said he wouldn't be surprised if the mayor takes them to court over this issue as well.
