Some decisions that have been made for our senior centers defy logic. Jones is demanding the end to our two existing senior centers. Previous administrations used Community Block Development grants (CDBG) to assist with the expenses of the centers. Brennan Center had their roof replaced through the CDBG funds and if the City privitized the centers for another use, they would probably use CDBG funds again for major repairs.
I always knew the centers to fall under the purview of the parks and recreation, meaning they can only be sold by a vote of the people.
Privitization of the centers has not been totally successful. |

Allegations are surfacing that members of Haselbring believe they are being cheated by the non-profit currently running their organizations.
They allege:
1. They have difficulty obtaining financial information regarding the operation of the Center:
2. The organization currently in charge paid $12,000 for an advisor, $5,000 for paperwork, required a 4 year degree for a Director and had by-laws written for $3,000 that allowed for the expulsion of any board member that challenged how the center was being run. |

The Pierce center in 2012 was doing poorly on their evaluations by the county. The Emergency Manager outsourced the operation of the golf course to Flint City Golf, LLC, then a newly formed Limited Liability Corporation. The managing partner is Frank D. Preketes, then an Associate CPA. Sadly, on March 20, 2013 the co-partner and well known lover of golf, Attorney Thomas Warda died at age 47. The Pierce enter was to become a banquet facility.
Since then Preketes is shown as an Environmental Health Consultant with ABF Environmental Consulting, and the operator of both Kearsley Golf Course and Swartz Creek Golf Course. On February 27, of 2015 the Journal reported the former Tavern on the Green, which closed in 2012, was to be operated by Preketes on a 10 year lease. The bar was to be renamed, Shot of the Day.
But we hear little about the Pierce Center. Local activists challenged the administration on December 12th, 2016 alleging a nely proposed lease of $1.00 per year was being proposed. |

Some County officials say it is prudent for them to stay out publicly in a politically charged environment between the senior centers and City of Flint administration. They remind that they function in a fiduciary and oversight capacity.
However, County Commissioners from other areas should not be going to senior centers to criticize the county leadership for that area. This can only serve to disrupt the unity and cooperation among the County Commission.
The Hasselbring Center passed their last audit despite certain members alleging fiscal misconduct. This center had the opportunity to form their own 501(c)3 and I am told they did. The lease is the issue now and that iis between the City and the Center. The first leadership previously appointed by the Emergency Management failed horribly. But, that is what happens when you place an entity going bankrupt in charge of a city resource.

The scary thing is the City may be put in charge over the Hasselbring Center.
Talk about the fox guarding the hen house! This administration is incapable of a competent running of the city. |

Callers to the Concerned Pastors show today stated Gilbert was supported by county officials to show Hasselbring self governance techniques. They alleged she took over and paid herself an $18,000 salary in addition to anything she earned at her Genesee Township center. |
