Uptown...no every time.. Too much history with the tax payers really losing more.

getyokids

Mott's grandson Ridgeway White ( Uptown ) has already received several tax breaks and a building for $1 and some economic development money. Let some other businesses get a tax break.

SMHinFlint

Can't the oversight board and/or the city administrator just over rule the city council on this decision?

Ted Jankowski

@SMHinFlint Why should we have a dictator over rule common sense.

John

Can we paleeze get the EFM back.

Ted Jankowski

@john Sure Millionaires need better representation don't they. buying the politicians isn't enough.

pavjo

I can only assume that along with Tim, Phil and Ghassan that now the Editor is in their pocket also. Who is the "group?" Who is the "property owner?" Come on Mr. Editor do you really believe the "group" is not goint to make money on this non Profit deal?

Why not stand up for the general publc?. The City needs money!!!!!

Ted Jankowski
@pavjo You hit it right on the head. Spokesman for uber rich. Flint just doesn't understand how they are trying to make things better for their own pocket books on the backs of the poor.

Residents in all parts of the city are angry over all of the development going in downtown and the same people getting tax breaks repeatedly. Don't forget how many believe the Flint Journal did not honor the tax breaks they got, so the Journal's opinion on tax credits and tax breaks means little. It is a case of the old saying, "What you are speaks so loudly I can't hear what you are saying". I can't respect anything the Journal writes about the downtown development.

This same development group cannot rent all their units in the First Street lofts and then finagled to have their HUD loan become a HUD forgivable grant. Do we need more gifts for downtown.

Some say no one is racing to use private money to develop downtown buildings. However, individuals have gone on line saying they attempted to develop downtown properties and have been thwarted in their attempts.

Cheap land is creating opportunities for some developers. The minimal cost is making it advantageous to demolish existing buildings and build new. Why not focus on improving success for those who use their own capital.
