MT. MORRIS TWP, MI -- Brenda Battle-Jordan, a member of the Genesee County Republican Executive Committee, has announced her campaign for a seat on the county Board of Commissioners.

A Flint School District retiree, Battle-Jordan, 56, is a GOP candidate in District 1. She said in a statement that she is the longest-serving member of the Westwood Heights Board of Education.

The District 1 seat is currently held by Omar Sims, D-Flint, but Sims has announced he is leaving the county board position to run for Michigan House of Representatives.

Battle-Jordan's statement says she has been involved in the Tea Party movement, is an abortion rights opponent, and believes "that a marriage should be between a man and a woman."

Democrat Bryant Nolden, a Flint city councilman, has also filed to run for the District 1 position, which covers northern Flint and parts of Mt. Morris and Genesee Townships, including the Beecher area.

Brenda Battle Jordan was on the Mike Killbreath Show this morning. As a leader of the Westwood Heights School Board, she stated they have a balanced budget.

She indicated she believes the controversy surrounding Obama and Obamacare will help her run for this office.

When asked about the two no-bid contracts given to the Chamber of Commerce, she stated she did not know if the contact was illegal or legal, but she felt it was a mistake.
Craig Withers, who is running for the State House seat against Charles Smiley, met with the Flint Chamber at their luncheon yesterday. His position on the no bid contracts were that he wanted the Attorney general to investigate and he felt some commissioners should go to jail. After hearing that Jordan agreed .

Jordan has been a member of Black Americans for Life for 8 years. I was surprised when she discussed how Omar Sims had also been a member. She said she confronted him when he began campaigning and working on a campaign for Pam Faris. HMMM! She also said his campaign for State Rep depended on how many uniformed voters supported him.

She indicated that at the county level, the social issues were not that important. Stay out of their bedrooms, but if same sex couples want to marry, stay away fro the children.
