Two of the heaviest criticisms laid against Snyder are the cuts to education and the roads. Schauer has many on-line ads running that focus on Snyder claiming to value education while cutting funds to education and then giving tax breaks to corporations. Haven't seen much trinkle down from these tax breaks as we still rank in the bottom of state rankings for job growth.

On Wednesday, May 7th The Detroit News Editorial (What Michigan Wants: Better Roads and Education , P 12A) focused on a new study from the Center for Michigan. The Ann Arbor Think Tank spent 7 months and talked to about 5,500 residents about their priorities.

Residents want an end to pot holes and are tired of the band-aids approach instead of a comprehensive plan for fixing our highways.

Michigan citizens are concerned about the nonperformance of Michigan public schools.Residents are concerned that the lack of education success only leads to making the state less competitive when it comes to jobs and investment.

Phil Power, founder of the Center for Michigan, noted that citizens want educational opportunities that prepares students for a future, whether college or a trade. Powers said there is a sense that the state is missing opportunities to train students in vocational opportunities.

That theme also applies to the fear of residents that their children are being priced out of a college education and express concerns the college education is not worth the cost. According to the study, residents want higher education to better reflect the economy and produce graduates that can are ready to enter the ob market.

On quality-of-life issues, 65% of the interviewees wanted to see a reduction in poverty.

More results can be found in "Michigan Speaks: The Citizens agenda for the 2014 Elections" by the Center for michigan.

This has nothing to do with affirmative action. This is the move to improve education to give all public education children an adequate basis for further training and to be employable,

The cuts to education by Snyder is making changes to the education process. As a result our children are failing to make adequate educational gains statewide.

Republican Rick Snyder’s Scythe Cuts Through Michigan’s Surplus and Kills Job Growth

By: Sarah Jones more from Sarah Jones
Wednesday, May, 14th, 2014, 12:03 pm

Rick Snyder, Ricardo Thomas / Associated Press
Under Republican Governor Rick Snyder, Michigan shows how starving the beast and corporate giveaways plays out on a micro level, in case anyone missed it during the Bush years.

Paul Egan at the Detroit Free Press reported:

The state will bring in about $400 million a year less in revenue than officials estimated in January, the House Fiscal Agency projects in a report released late today.
If confirmed, the report means a multi-year state budget surplus pegged at $971 million could be close to wiped out.
The state does revenue estimates for three years out. And according to the report prepared for Thursday’s revenue-estimating conference at the Capitol, the combined revenue numbers for the general fund and School Aid Fund were revised downward by close to $1.3 billion over that time.

And guess who is going to pay for the Republicans’ decision to low taxes on the elite whilst giving corporations giveaways from the coffers?

Yep. That’s right. The people.

So the first items on the chopping block are the bipartisan “Build Better Roads” bill that cleared the state House last week which provides $450 million for road funding this year and $500 million in annual long-term funding and of course, Detroit.

The numbers could affect how much lawmakers spend on road repairs and influence the debate over a requested $195-million state payment to help settle the Detroit bankruptcy case.

If you’ve ever driven in southeastern Michigan, you know that road repair has never been much of a priority to begin with, and the roads can be dangerously pitted and full of potholes. Driving on them in the winter can be a bit terrifying. The Senate is said to be debating a bipartisan road repair bill now.

And of course, “Detroit” – code for “inner city” which is code for “African American” — will take the brunt of it. Sure, Snyder had a quarter of a million to pay an “emergency manager” to file for bankruptcy for Detroit, but there is no money for Detroiters to do things like… vote.

While the people are getting outraged, Rick Snyder and his buddies are grinning, because once they’ve starved Detroit enough, they can swoop in and take the river front property, the beautiful old buildings, Belle Isle and anything else they think will turn a profit for pennies on the dollar, as they already did in Benton Harbor.

In case anyone doubts their intentions or how they see “Detroit”, Chris Savage at Eclectablog reported that the DEQ recently issued a permit to a favored business to pollute Detroit at a higher level. Yeah, go ahead, keep dumping pollutants in Detroit and Dearborn (home to the largest Arab American population in the country) at levels “in excess of state regulations”, because hey. It pays to be privileged.

On May 6th, the Detroit Free Press suggested that Rick Snyder’s “business-promoting agency” worked hard behind the scenes to “release even higher levels of pollutants and avoid current air quality regulations”, and may have bent the rules.

“Rules” are for “Detroit”, not for Big Business. Detroit must be punished for failing to follow the rules, and being morally corrupt enough to be poor. All of the entitled white collar gangsters (aka, Koch type “business owners”) will take the money and run. No, I’m not referring to small business owners, but then, Republicans aren’t either, as their policies tend to hurt small businesses.

The House Fiscal Agency still predicts economic recovery, but “The state also is paying out more Michigan Business Tax credits than forecast.” Oh. So much for “shared sacrifices”.

Per the Detroit Free Press:

“Employment growth accelerated during 2011 as 96,700 jobs were added, but employment growth has slowed; only 76,800 new jobs were added in 2012 followed by 47,900 new jobs in 2013,” the report says.
“Even after almost four years of job growth, as of March 2014 total non-farm employment in Michigan is roughly 11.7% lower than in January 2000.”

Yes, the Michigan economy is improving slowly, but it’s doing that around the country. Where is the dramatic job growth trickle down is supposed to “create”? Where is the huge economic boom that worshiping at the feet of big business promises? These promises were made as the honey that would come from the pain inflicted on the people of Michigan. They did their part, again. Even after the Bush years. And where is their reward?

Now that the fail of cutting revenue while giving tax breaks to big business is once again proving that math rules, the people will pay.

Study after study shows that Republican governors are associated with lower rates of growth. There’s a new one out that my colleague RMuse reported on Wednesday. “According to a recent comprehensive study, states that embrace conservative economic policies far underperform states enacting liberal economic policies.” This study showed that “pro-business” states did worst in private nonfarm jobs growth, compared to those with “anti-business” policies.”

Under Republican Governor Scott Walker, Wisconsin has been a petri dish of festering conservative “pro-business” fail. “Pro-business” does not mean good, sound economic policy – it means corporate giveaways and unfunded tax breaks to the people who fund the Republican party. The facts are that tax impacts are quite variable, while expenditure impacts are more consistent. This translates into liberal, Democratic policies being better for the economy on a state level, no matter what the dapper, sanctimonious Ronald Reagan promised.

And facts aren’t any more partisan than math. They exist, and denying them isn’t helping anyone. The problem is that Republicans are trying to excuse selling out their party as some kind of ideological principle that leads to “economic freedom”. Giving all of our resources to corporations has not led to economic freedom or individual liberty, nor will it ever.

Republicans are driving the price of Detroit down and when it’s cheap enough, they’ll do what the Republicans did in other areas of Michigan—take the people’s public land and appropriate it for corporations and the rich.

Flint and Detroit have some of the highest funding. So how come families aren't moving here to enjoy the funding levels.

Look at the stories about how the EAA officials that took over Detroit Schools have been mishandling funds. Another Republican idea!

POLL: Mark Schauer now tied with Rick Snyder, Terri Lynn Land sinking into obscurity

by Eclectablog on JULY 1, 2014 in GARY PETERS, MARK SCHAUER, MICHIGAN DEMOCRATS, MICHIGAN REPUBLICANS, POLLS, RICK SNYDER, TERRI LYNN LAND

Public Policy Polling’s latest Michigan poll has very good news for Democrats. Let’s start out with the very best news: after trailing in all previous polling, Mark Schauer is now in a 40-40 dead heat with incumbent Republican Governor Rick Snyder. What’s more, Snyder’s numbers are down four points from December and he has a negative job approval of 54% vs. only 37% who think he’s doing a good job.

Mark Schauer is still introducing himself to the voters in Michigan and every poll shows him doing better and better. Rick Snyder, on the other hand, who virtually every Michigander knows, appears to be cratering.

Terri Lynn Land, on the other hand, is doing even worse than Gov. Snyder. She’s trailing Gary Peters by points (41-45%) and has an incredibly high unfavorability rating of 42%. Only 32% like her. This is a “really” big turnaround given that she was up over Peters by two points in December of 2013.

Overall, Democrats are looked on favorably by voters, particularly compared to Republicans. They have an even favorable/unfavorable rating of 39% each. Republicans, by comparison, are reviled by most Michiganders. Only 24% give them favorable marks while a whopping 56% have an unfavorable opinion.

PPP puts it this way:

The Republicans in the legislature are incredibly unpopular, with a 24/56 favorability rating. The Democrats at least manage to break even at 39%. Democrats lead the generic legislative ballot at this point 48/34- 92% of Democrats are committed to voting for their party, while just 79% of Republicans say they’re going to vote for theirs.
Between the War on Workers and the War on Women plus their inability to do anything helpful with regard to road repair or education, the chickens are coming home to roost for Michigan Republicans.

Get ready for more talk of tax cuts bribes in 3 … 2 … 1 …

Terri Lynn Land boasts about backing of another Koch brothers front group but won’t answer questions about it

By Eclectablog on July 2, 2014 in Corporatism, Terri Lynn Land

Yesterday, Terri Lynn Land accepted the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business claiming that it shows she is supported by Michigan small business owners. However, what it really shows is that, once again, she’s being backed by a Koch brothers’ corporatist front group set up to shape laws and public policy to benefit corporations. The Koch brothers are, in fact, the NFIB’s largest contributor:

The National Federation of Independent Business is one of the most influential small-business advocacy groups in the country. They battle against government regulation, higher taxes and, perhaps most famously, Obamacare. And they do it all as the self-described “voice of small business.”

But it turns out that the champions of Main Street America got more money last year from a group backed by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch than any other single source.

NFIB and its affiliated groups received $2.5 million from Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, a conservative advocacy group with deep ties to the Koch empire. Of the five men that sit on the group’s board, four are current or former employees of Koch companies and one is a friend of Charles Koch’s.

Freedom Partners gave the NFIB $1.5 million last year, the biggest single contribution the federation received…

Yes, I know. You’re shocked that the failed candidacy of Terri Lynn Land is being supported by yet another Koch brothers’ front group.

At the press conference announcing the NFIB’s endorsement, a reporter asked, “This endorsement is this another move by the Koch brothers to influence the election. Do you want to address that?” Land laughed and took a step backwards, dodging the question and turning it over to an NFIB official. You can watch it here starting at the 2:10 mark:

Land is in dubious company. The NFIB has also endorsed Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin and Richard Mourdock who (in)famously said that babies resulting from rape are a “something God intended”.

Land has been trailing Democrat Gary Peters in 7 straight polls now, despite massive spending from the Koch brothers’ Americans for Prosperity. They’ve already plowed over $4.3 million into the race on behalf of Land and don’t plan to stop now.

One thing is very, very clear: without all that sweet, sweet Koch money, she wouldn’t even be in contention.

Schauer stands against this type of abusive power!

Pam Faris (on Snyder's scandals)

And the scandals keep coming.
Scott Woosley who heads up the low income housing MSHDA had travel expense accounts for over $200,000 for the last 18 months. Limo's, massages, dry cleaning, expensive booze for dinner, best of the best hotels and dining and on and on.
Aramark prison food providers with maggots in the potatoes at a number of different prison facilities (can't get that maggot image out of my head) along with sex between inmates and prisoners and contraband being smuggled into the prison. Nothing gets prison riots going faster than bad food.
The Governors cousin, George Snyder, has been awarded very lucrative office furniture contracts and emails between him and the governors administration surfaced that show him explaining how tough it would be if he lost the state contract.
The EAA school administrator and his appointees were also enjoying traveling at taxpayer expense to the tune of thousands and thousands of dollars.
The republican campaign staffers were caught with 'spy glasses' at a Schauer fundraiser and so inept that they left the recordings at a democratic party meeting later that week.
Treasury staff who handle the states investments were given HUGE raises - some as much as 90%. I don't believe our return on investments qualifies as anything special and the raises were way out of line.
So how does that "manage the state like a business' policy grab you? Too much taxpayer money has been wasted by Gov Snyder's appointees and administrators. The scandals keep coming.
