The media has presented some "feel good" stories about two east side parks. For years Kearsley Park has been singled out for improvements, partly because of it's close proximity to Mott College.

However, although Mott College has moved part of it's operations into the former armory building and Mott College police cruise the neighborhoods, drug dealing has dominated the neighborhoods surrounding the park.

I recently spoken to some Kearsley Park residents that are upset with the ongoing drug sales and traffic I their community. They question why a house busted for drugs remains without a padlock and why the drug dealer was allowed to just move one street away.

The drug deals have been observed taking place on the bridge that connects the two parts of the park. The area near Kearsley Park Blvd. and Wisconsin to Wisconsin and Ohio have been hot spots for drug dealing and remain so. A mysterious dark gray SUV is involved.

When the stories about large quantities of heroin started on the east side they were coupled with tales of drug hauling youth with black backpacks on bicycles. Suddenly the remnants of black backpacks strewn on the ground began appearing around the east side and the tales ended.

Residents said the State Police were looking for the leader and also complaining about being unable to break the "no snitch" barrier. Judging from the increased gang graffiti, the problem is growing.
