Word is the Flint Police have removed their officers fro the Kettering patrols as Kettering has not honored the contract and refuses to pay.
Michigan law allows public colleges like Mott Community College and University of Michigan to have their own armed police units. Private colleges are not allowed to have armed officers. That is why Kettering entered into an agreement with Flint Police to have additional officers assigned in that area to protect their students. These officers were never exclusively assigned to Kettering and were pulled as needed.
Now it is being said Kettering officials are dissatisfied with the arrangement and are declining payment. Officers have been reassigned. Will Flint demand payment for a breach of contract?
Also Flint may only have about 60 plus officers to work the streets and not 140. |
