Saginaw Township has it right. They've started website with crime reports.

You are absolutely right. There needs to be transparency and accurate crime reporting. Flint does not appear to have the resources to maintain an accurate and up-to-date crime reporting system. Sometimes, even the Flint Journal has had better reporting than our web site.

When citizens tell me about crimes the are aware of and that is not in-sync with the police reporting, they become suspicious. Also the police should not alter the way they report to minimize the true impact. The residents are not stupid.

Residents aren't reporting all crimes, either. One thing I found particularly disturbing was that suspicious fires are no longer being investigated as arsons. That will definitely affect statistical reporting and grant funding! Likely similar for police reporting.
