The city of Flint will have to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars to settle a lawsuit filed by a local towing company.

Complete Auto and Truck Parts had a contract with the Flint to tow and store vehicles. According to a company attorney, soon after Flint Mayor Don Williamson took the oath of office, he terminated Complete's contract, but the city then continued to use the services.
Complete Auto filed a lawsuit against the city late last year, alleging the city owed the company nearly $400,000, having provided towing and storage services to the city for years.

Attorney Steven Spender represents Complete Auto. He says the company was in the middle of a three-year contract when Mayor Williamson gave them 30 days notice that he was cancelling their contract.

Spender said the contract allowed for either side to terminate with notice. The problem, he says, was that the city terminated the contract but continued to use the services.

According to Spender, the city sent Complete Auto a check for $207,000 last November, but the company determined that Flint owed about twice that amount.

Complete Auto sued and earlier this month in Genesee County Circuit Court, a jury found the city to be at fault and ordered payment of $365,000, plus thousands more in attorney fees.

Attorney Spender says they will be back in court Monday to seek a judgment for the attorney's fees. Spender says those fees could be as much as $40,000.

If you owe someone money pay them! It's cheaper than losing in court.

One thing I would be curious about. Who does all the that Towing Fee and Storage Fee Money that Complete was collecting go to if the City is paying them also? You go down to the City and pay your fine. The go down to complete and pay the towing and storage. I don’t get how the city would end up owing them? When people don't pay their bill. complete Auctions off the car and then keeps the money. Was this for towing City Vehicles? The city could buy it's own tow trucks and do their own towing then. Anybody know the WHOLE story?
