This (Friday) morning, the victim advocacy program announced that it will shut down in less than a month.

The nasty budget battle between Mayor Don Williamson and the City Council is forcing the closure of the agency.

A division of the city attorney's office, the victim advocacy program is being shut down July 1.

The head of that agency, Melanie Jones, says the office has to close because of the recently adopted city budget.

She says the council has cut funds available to the city attorney's office, so there is really no choice.
