Has anyone else, heard anymore news about this? Have they increased security? Charged any of the "children"?

If the lurkers are reading this, sign up and join the conversation. This encompasses more than just Flint, it affects everyone that has children that they love.

A Springfield XD-45 can be found locally for around 550 - 600, new.

I believe you are confusing fear with preparedness. Better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it. I think the real cowards in society are those who refuse to have a means of self defense and plan on having someone else do it for them. You make the choice you live or die with it. Very Happy

What ever gave you the idea that the cops are there to protect you? Just because it says it on the side of their cruiser does not make it so. Ill tell ya what have any female you know call the police and tell them she has to go shopping at courtland or meijers or perhaps downtown and she would feel a lot safer if an officer would accompany her during her travels. What do you suppose they will tell her?

You won't read about it. You won't hear much on a police scanner, either. Mall security will call the police on the phone, and cars will be dispatched to the street address. No business names will be mentioned. Publicity about crime is bad for business. I know a Flint Township Police Officer who will not allow his wife to go to Genesee valley alone.

"Extra security on hand at Courtland Center after assault complaints
Posted by Ron Fonger | The Flint Journal October 26, 2007 15:48PM
Categories: Breaking News, Burton, Business, Crime, Flint, Flint Township
BURTON -- Extra security officers were on patrol at Courtland Center shopping center today and police worked overtime following two separate cases in which women were kidnapped and raped before being released by their attacker.

"It's scary," said Joe Salrin, owner of Holographic Images, a 25-year tenant at the mall. "I hope they catch (him)."

Police here and in Flint Township were reviewing surveillance video from Courtland and the Genesee Valley shopping centers today, hoping it helps them identify a man who may also be responsible for a third attack in which a woman escaped a similar attack in the parking lot of Genesee Valley.

"We're working on it. It's going to take a number of hours," township Police Sgt. Gene DuBuc said of the video review.

In the Burton cases, two shoppers in the Courtland parking lot were kidnapped, driven to a remote, unspecified area and raped, police said.

The Burton attacks occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and both victims were returned to the Flint area after they were driven to an unspecified location and raped, according to police.

This afternoon, security officers walked inside and outside the shopping center while a truck patrolled surrounding parking lots.

Courtland shopper Marcia Bogar, 69, of Genesee Township said woman need to be prepared for the worst and be ready to fight back.

"I'm pretty tough," said Bogar as she waited on an outdoor bench for a ride home.

"He's going to have to shoot me right here."

Police are suggesting that woman consider shopping with a friend to stack the odds against their becoming a victim, and officials from both shopping centers said security officers would be available to walk shoppers who feel uneasy to their vehicles.

"The Burton Police Department and Courtland Center have coordinated their efforts and have significantly increased security ... in light of the recent incidents," said Troy Hannon, operations and physical plant manager at Courtland.

"We are hopeful that the perpetrator of these isolated incidents will be apprehended shortly," Hannon said.

In the Genesee Valley case, a Montrose woman was assaulted and her car was stolen in the parking lot outside the J.C. Penney store about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Ed McHale, Genesee Valley mall manager, said today that he's not sure whether the surveillance video from his shopping center will help police.

"It really depends on the position of the camera at that point," he said."

i remember that. how long prior or since has that happened.
it has happened at every mall. hundreds of thousands every
year consider courtland, meijers, genesee valley and all other
malls safe. if they didn't, the malls wouldn't be open..right??
