I was surprised to hear allegations at the county Republican meeting that the UAW helped lobby for the tax increase that Michigan passed in order to help protect their government employees.

According to http://www.uaw.org/news/newsarticle.cfm?ArtId=226 "The UAW currently represents more than 50,000 state and commonwealth employees in Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and Puerto Rico, as well as city, county, public library and public university employees in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Ohio."

This was in 2003.

You were surprised to hear allegations about Democrats and unions from Republicans? Whatever. I'm shocked that the UAW actually stood up for any of its members. When auto companies say they need cuts, Gettlefinger & Co. lock their members in a room, hand them each a knife and don't let them leave until all their livihoods are gutted – and in need of health care.
