Author    Post   Steve Myers Site Admin About 12 people working for Flint now have layoff notices. It's the latest move by the mayor. This one comes in an attempt to balance the city's budget. Kirk Yuhnke had more. The mayor's original budget proposal didn't include money for all of his staff. He sent a revised budget to City Council, but that was not approved. Now the mayor's spokesman says he has no choice but to make these cuts. It was regular business for council Wednesday as a finance committee meeting got underway. But in the mayor's office, it was not a typical day. All of his support staff received layoff notices, direct from him. A few workers in other offices in City Hall were also given notice. City Council President Johnnie Coleman says he's not surprised. Here's what will happen next: The mayor has sent another revised budget to the council that would reinstate the workers.
